How does it work?
Tripeptide-3 (β-Ala-Pro-Dab-NH-benzyl) is used as a potent anti-wrinkle agent, mimicking the effects of Waglerin-1, a peptide found in the venom of the temple viper, Tropidolaemus wagleri.
This neurotoxin also reversibly binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction, preventing muscle depolarization and contraction.
Tripeptide-3 induces a reversible antagonistic effect on the postsynaptic membrane's muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, preventing acetylcholine from binding to the receptors.
In vitro studies have shown that Tripeptide-3 (0.5 mM) reduces muscle contraction, with an 82% decrease in muscle contraction observed after two hours of treatment.
Tripeptide-3, composed of β-Ala-Pro-Dab-NH-benzyl x2 AcOH, is also known as Syn-Ake.
In vivo studies have demonstrated that applying a 4% formulation to the forehead twice daily for 28 days resulted in a reduction of wrinkles by up to 52% in tested volunteers.
